Materials Needed at Every Lesson
Music Notes folder (provided by the teacher)
Notebook or notebook paper for lesson assignment notes
Currently assigned music
Also needed:
Metronome for home practice (Intermediate and Advanced Students)
Pocket Music Dictionary
Music Stand for home practice (Flute Students)
A place to practice that is well lighted and without distractions
Tuner for home practice (Advanced Flute Students)
A Practice Schedule Plan (to be determined by the Parents, Student, and Teacher)
I encourage students to listen to music, especially music involving instruments they are studying. You can do this by attending concerts and by listening to recordings.
Communication between parents and teacher is important. The provided Music Notes folder with its contents is a convenient way for the teacher to communicate. Please check this folder each week.
Sufficient and proper practice is necessary to ensure progress. The teacher will present to each student appropriate practice goals. Most children need parental guidance in organizing their time to accomplish these goals. Parents also serve as guides to teach the students about commitment and following through in an activity. Working together, we will enable the student to learn more than how to play an instrument. The student will develop discipline, coordination, stage presence, and self control. The study of music also promotes transfer of learning, concentration skills, and a sense of accomplishment.
Lessons are the student's opportunity to show the teacher what progress has been achieved during the week's practice, ask the teacher any questions that have come up during the practice, listen to the teacher's instructions to guide the next week's work.
